Phil Foden Stats: Goals, Assists and Honours to 2026

Stats accurate as of 18 August 2026, following the end of the 2025/26 season. Phil Foden has made 370 appearances for Manchester City and scored 110 goals, of which 225 appearances and 68 goals have come in the Premier League. He is 26, born 28 May 2000 in Stockport, wears number 47, and in October 2025 signed a four-year contract extension running to the summer of 2030.

The 2025/26 season complicates the picture. He scored 7 goals with 5 assists in 33 Premier League appearances as City finished second behind Arsenal, but he won two more trophies as City took both domestic cups. He was then left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup, announced on 22 May 2026, ending on 49 caps and 4 goals. Two years on from being the best player in England, he did not travel to the tournament.

He reached his 100th goal for the club on 30 June 2025, in the Club World Cup round of 16. Reaching a century of goals for one club before turning 26, having joined the academy as a child and never played for anyone else, is the single statistic that best frames his career.

Premier League, season by season

League numbers are the fairest comparison across seasons because the sample is consistent. Cup runs vary in length and rotation distorts them.

2024/2524721,631
2025/2633752,084

Read the minutes column alongside the goals and the story changes. In 2019/20 he scored 5 in 901 minutes; in 2021/22 he scored 9 in 2,128. The raw goal count more than doubled between those seasons but the rate barely moved, because the extra goals came from being on the pitch rather than from being more dangerous.

What the numbers actually show

The critical transition is 2022/23 to 2023/24. His minutes rose from 1,842 to 2,857, a jump of 55%, but his goals rose from 11 to 19, a jump of 73%. He became both a starter and a more efficient one at the same time, which is rare and is what a player’s peak looks like in data.

Phil Foden career statistics including goals and appearances

Starts matter more than appearances for him specifically. In 2019/20 he made 23 league appearances but only 9 starts; by 2023/24 he made 35 appearances with 33 starts. For the first five years of his career the headline appearance count overstated his actual involvement, because a large share were late substitute cameos in games already won.

  • 2019/20 to 2021/22: squad player converting to regular, heavily rotated by Pep Guardiola.
  • 2022/23: first genuinely full campaign, and a Champions League winner.
  • 2023/24: peak season, 19 league goals, three major individual awards.
  • 2024/25: disrupted campaign, fewest league minutes since 2020/21, City trophyless.
  • 2025/26: minutes recovered to 2,084, but output stayed at 2024/25 levels.

2023/24: the peak, and why it was exceptional

In 2023/24 he scored 19 Premier League goals and added 8 assists from 35 appearances, and swept the individual awards: PFA Players’ Player of the Year, Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, and Premier League Player of the Season. Winning the players’ vote and the writers’ vote in the same year is unusual, because the two constituencies frequently disagree.

It also completed a set. He had already won the PFA Young Player of the Year and the Premier League Young Player of the Season twice each, in 2020/21 and 2021/22. Very few players convert back-to-back young player awards into the senior award, and doing so at 23 put him on a trajectory that the two seasons since have not maintained.

2024/25 and 2025/26: the decline in output

The drop is real and should not be softened. Across 2024/25 he made 24 league appearances for 7 goals and 2 assists, his lowest returns in five years, in a season disrupted by illness and personal circumstances and in which City won nothing. His all-competitions record was 13 goals in 49 appearances.

In 2025/26 he played more, 33 league appearances and 2,084 minutes, but produced the same 7 goals with 5 assists. That is the more troubling pattern: 2024/25 could be explained by absence, whereas 2025/26 was a broadly available season at roughly a third of his peak scoring rate. Goal involvement per 90 minutes in the league fell from around 0.85 at his peak to roughly half that.

Context matters, though. City rebuilt significantly across those two seasons and Foden’s role moved around the front line rather than settling. He also came off the bench in the EFL Cup final, replacing Rayan Cherki in the 90th minute of a 2-0 win over Arsenal on 22 March 2026, which tells you where he sat in the pecking order for the biggest games by the end of the season.

England record and the World Cup omission

He debuted on 5 September 2020 against Iceland in the Nations League and scored his first England goal against the same opponent that November. He was part of the squads for Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, where he scored against Wales and assisted against Senegal, and Euro 2024. He finishes this period on 49 caps and 4 goals, a return that has always been the puzzle of his international career.

On 22 May 2026 Thomas Tuchel named his World Cup squad and Foden was not in it, alongside Cole Palmer. The stated reasoning was below-par club campaigns and heavy competition in that area of the pitch. Tuchel framed his selection around who he trusted, who had delivered and who had built the culture from September onwards, which is a pointed way of describing a player who had been a fixture for six years.

Four goals in 49 caps for a player with 110 club goals is the gap that defines the debate about him. The usual explanation is that England never found the central role in which he plays for City, and repeatedly used him wide left, where his numbers have always been weaker.

The 2025/26 additions came from a domestic cup double: a 2-0 EFL Cup final win over Arsenal at Wembley on 22 March 2026, and a 1-0 FA Cup final win over Chelsea on 16 May 2026. City finished second in the Premier League on 78 points, seven behind Arsenal on 85.

Position, role and how he is used

He is listed as an attacking midfielder but has started competitively at right wing, left wing, central midfield and as a false nine. That versatility is genuinely unusual at elite level and is also, arguably, what has cost him: he has rarely had a settled position long enough for a season to be built around him.

His best season came when he operated mainly in the right half-space, drifting inside onto his stronger left foot with an overlapping full-back outside him. That configuration generates shots from the edge of the box, which is where the majority of his 2023/24 goals came from. When he is deployed wide left and asked to hold width, his shot volume falls sharply.

  • Preferred foot: left, used both for finishing across goal and for crossing.
  • Best role: inside-right, arriving at the box rather than starting in it.
  • Weakest deployment: orthodox left winger holding the touchline.
  • Set pieces: takes corners and free kicks in most City line-ups.
  • Physical profile: small and low to the ground, strong in tight areas, not an aerial threat.

Contract, value and where he stands now

He signed a four-year extension in October 2025 running until the summer of 2030, having been approaching the final year of his previous deal. Public market valuations put him in the region of 60 to 65 million euros in mid-2026, well down on his 2024 peak, which is what two seasons of reduced output does to a valuation even for a player still short of 27.

No transfer materialised in either the 2025 or 2026 windows and none was reported as close. He has been at Manchester City since childhood, has never played for another club, and the length of the new contract suggests both parties expect that to continue.

Common errors in Foden statistics online

  • Quoting appearances without starts. Roughly a third of his early appearances were substitute cameos; totals flatter his early involvement.
  • Mixing league and all-competition figures. 110 goals is all competitions for City; 68 is Premier League only.
  • Treating 2023/24 as his baseline. It was his best season by a distance, not his norm.
  • Stating a net worth as fact. Player earnings are not published; circulating figures are unverified estimates from aggregator sites.
  • Assuming he is still an England regular. He was omitted from the 2026 World Cup squad on 22 May 2026.
  • Using pages that were not updated after May 2026. The cup double and the squad omission both fall after most sites last refreshed.

What to watch from here

He turns 27 in May 2027 and is contracted to 2030, so the decisive question is whether 2024/25 and 2025/26 were an interruption or a new level. The recovery in minutes during 2025/26 without a matching recovery in output is the number to track: if his goal involvement per 90 returns towards 0.8 in 2026/27, the peak was real and repeatable. If it stays near 0.4, the 2023/24 season looks increasingly like an outlier.

Internationally, a return depends on club form under a manager who has already demonstrated he will leave out established names. At 26 with 49 caps he has time, but England’s forward line has moved on without him once already.
